Airports Vanuatu Ltd (AVL)is the authority responsible for the management of Vanuatu's three international airports, Port Vila (Bauerfield) International Airport – VLI, Santo (Pekoa) International Airport – SON, and Tanna (Whitegrass) International Airport – TAH. Currently AVL employs more than 200 staff.
AVL and The Vanuatu Project Management Unit is currently undertaking a USD$47.7 million rehabilitation and upgrade of Vanuatu's Bauerfield International Airport in partnership with the World Bank’s Pacific Aviation Investment Program, GHD and the China Civil Engineering Construction Corporation.
The project is a priority activity for AVL, following years of controversy and delay after international airlines’ temporarily ceased flights to Vanuatu in 2016 due to the deteriorating condition of the airport runway.
Elevate was engaged to devise and execute a highly targeted media strategy to rebuild confidence in AVL and the Bauerfield International Airport. This was achieved by generating positive media coverage for an announcement of late June 2019 project completion, and for a public open day held on Monday 25 February 2019 to illustrate the progress of construction.
Elevate successfully achieved coverage for both the open day and progress with the airport rehabilitation and upgrade in local and international media outlets throughout the duration of the campaign.
Additionally, Facebook proved to be a strong communication tool throughout the campaign, particularly when speaking to the general public.
