Tenheggeler Homes and Eco Cool Homes is leading the way in central Queensland for eco building, with its first InsulLiving® home to be featured on Foxtel’s Lifestyle Home channel.
The ‘Build Me A Home’ episode will air this Sunday 10 July at 12.30pm, and the home has already attracted significant interest from Gladstone locals.
Troy Tenheggeler and his team have coined the house the ‘Eco Cool Home’, as it demonstrates how a modern, beautiful home, can be simplistic and cyclone durable, while boasting significant energy features.
A member of the Independent Builders Network, Mr Tenheggeler was contacted when a local client was interested in building a home using Bondor’s InsulLiving® building system.
“It was an exciting opportunity for us and we were very keen to be involved as we believe this is the way forward for the building industry,” he said.
“With this project we strived to build a home quickly – within weeks rather than months.
“Bondor’s InsulLiving® home also demonstrates that although the system is simplistic, it can still be aesthetically pleasing for homeowners and at the same time provide significant energy saving features.”
The InsulLiving® building system combines Bondor’s InsulWall® and SolarSpan® roofing products and offers a complete thermal envelope to exceed the Building Code of Australia’s current six-star thermal efficiency requirement.
The home delivers interiors that are warmer in winter and cooler in summer – perfect for the central Queensland weather, which can soar to greater than 40 degrees in warmer months.
Homeowners across the country are already benefiting financially from the InsulLiving® building system, saving an average of up to 40 per cent on energy bills.
Even prior to the home being completed, Mr Tenheggeler noticed the home’s excellent ability to maintain a moderate temperature, without the need for air-conditioning.
“The home continually sits at 23 degrees, and we’ve noticed how comfortable this will be for the owner,” he said.
“Even on the hottest days we were able to seek refuge in the house on our breaks, and my team has commented on how cool and comfortable the environment is, even without air-conditioning.
“Located on McCarthy Road, the home is visible from the highway so we’ve received plenty of comments from people driving by as they’ve witnessed the speed of construction. It’s been an excellent location for us to showcase exactly what we’re doing.”
While the progress for this home was slowed slightly to meet filming requirements for the TV series, an InsulLiving® home has the potential to be built from slab to lock-up in just three weeks.
Bondor General Manager Geoff Marsdon said this was because of the four-in-one product lessening the requirement for multiple trades.
“We’re very pleased Tenheggeler Homes has taken on board Bondor’s InsulLiving® building system,” Mr Marsdon said.
“The system is Bondor’s response to the building industry and consumer driven demand for faster, energy efficient and space saving building materials.
“Builders and home owners alike no longer need to endure six to nine month build times due to nationwide trade shortages of quality bricklayers, which can impact occupancy by months.
“InsulLiving®’s four-in-one InsulWall® insulated steel building system replaces brickwork, timber framing, plasterboard and insulation with one material. While the SolarSpan® roof is a three-in-one roofing solution that includes the roof, ceiling and insulation.”
Mr Marsdon congratulated Tenheggeler Homes on the project.
The home, 331 square metres in size, features high ceilings, an open-planned kitchen, three bedrooms and a study. It is completed by two decks, with one to make the most of the northern sun and is structurally sound for cyclones with a C2 rating.
Tenheggeler Homes are currently building another display home due to open in September 2016 at 4 Parkway Crescent Gladstone, where locals see what the InsulLiving® system is like for themselves.
