The Dometic Follow the Sun competition that takes winners on a three-month Aussie road trip has been officially launched in 2016, but this year there’s a charitable twist that will see fresh winners “cruise for a cause”.
Dometic is reaching out to the booming $17 billion, 587,000-strong Australian recreational vehicle population by giving away two ‘RV RENOs’. Winners receive up to $25,000 worth of Dometic mobile living products tailored to their vehicles, $10,000 in selected travel expenses and a once in a lifetime chance to help to save lives.
For the first time in Follow the Sun’s history, the competition is now open to those who don’t own an RV and all because of a new partnership between Dometic and the National Breast Cancer Foundation (NBCF), Australia’s national body funding breast cancer research, with money raised entirely by the Australian public.
NBCF has provided its Pink Minnie Caravan (images attached), to be driven by one lucky couple who will assist in both raising funds and sharing information about NBCF throughout their journey through Australian cities, towns campgrounds and caravan parks.
All winners will receive up to $10,000 to cover selected travel expenses, plus $5,000 worth of portable Dometic products, including a WAECO fridge/freezer, to ensure they travel in complete comfort.
Dometic marketing Manager Justine Schuller said Australians were embracing mobile living at unprecedented levels with the industry’s economic value growing to more than $17 billion annually, making it perfect community to take on such an important cause affecting so many Australians.
“Not many people would know this but there is an RV built in this country every five minutes during working hours,” Ms Schuller said.
“The RV industry is one of the fastest growing manufacturing industries within Australia, employing over 5000 people nationally and in 2015, produced a record 22,711 RVs,” she said.
Ms Schuller said nearly 30,000 extra campervans and caravans were registered between 2014 and 2015. Collectively more than a million people are involved in this industry.
“We recognised a tremendous opportunity to reach out to the wonderful people that make up this growing community and talk to them about the National Breast Cancer Foundation’s message,” Ms Schuller said.
“This is a great way to increase awareness about such a serious issue. In addition to this we are introducing NBCF supporters to the RV industry; the families, the grey nomads and of course the younger generation that love to travel and experience all Australia has to offer, many of whom have also been affected by breast cancer.”
Ms Schuller said Dometic was excited to partner with the National Breast Cancer Foundation to help raise funds for breast cancer research, as research is the only way to improve how breast cancer is diagnosed, managed and treated.
NBCF Corporate Partnerships Executive, Jackie Horwill, said Follow the Sun was an extraordinary opportunity to connect with an ever-growing population of adventurous Australians.
“This really is one of those rare win-win scenarios where you can take the journey of a lifetime and play a vital role in potentially saving lives, while spreading the word about a disease that has affected so many Australians and their families.”
The chosen winners of the Pink Minnie will become Dometic Ambassadors on their three month journey, hosting ‘Follow the Sun - Happy Hours’ at predetermined stops along the way for members of the public.
