Cruising for a cause - Dometic Follow the Sun and NBCF reach out to Victoria's RV community

The 2016 Dometic Follow the Sun competition that takes winners on a three-month Aussie road trip has been launched to Melbourne’s thriving caravan and RV community and this year there’s a charitable twist that will see fresh winners “cruise for a cause”.

At the Victorian Caravan & Camping Show, beginning 24 February, Dometic is reaching out to the booming 587,000-strong Australian recreational vehicle population, 150,000 of those in Victoria. Nationally this community contributes $17 billion annually to the Australia economy – by giving away two ‘RV RENOs’.

Winners receive up to $25,000 worth of Dometic mobile living products tailored to their vehicles, $10,000 in travel expenses and a once in a lifetime chance to help save lives.

For the first time in Follow the Sun’s history, the competition is now open to those who don’t own an RV and all because of a new partnership between Dometic and the National Breast Cancer Foundation (NBCF), Australia’s national body funding breast cancer research, with money raised entirely by the Australian public.

All three Dometic Follow the Sun winners will travel through cities in Australia, holding Happy Hours at various holiday parks, while also spreading awareness and raising vital funds for critical breast cancer research. The winners will all reunite in Melbourne for a finale event not to be missed.

“We know just how much Victorians love the caravan, RV and camping lifestyle. We also know how Victoria can get behind a great cause and this is their opportunity to do both,” Dometic Marketing Manager Justine Schuller said.

“We recognised a tremendous opportunity to reach out to the wonderful people that make up this growing community and talk to them about the National Breast Cancer Foundation’s message,” she said.

Ms Schuller said there was now one RV being built in Australia every five minutes during business hours. The RV industry is one of the fastest growing manufacturing industries within Australia, employing over 5,000 people nationally, producing over 22,700 RVs in 2015.

“There are only two requirements to enter this year and they are a love of travel in Australia and the desire to make a difference to people affected by breast cancer,” Ms Schuller said.

“We encourage everyone to come to the Dometic stand (208) and visit the Pink Minnie, where you can enter for free.”

National Breast Cancer Foundation Corporate Partnerships Executive, Jackie Horwill, said NBCF’s partnership with Dometic Follow the Sun made perfect sense.

“There is an enormous and amazing community out there all across Australia living the dream. We are so excited to be able to reach out and take our message to those wonderful people as part of the Dometic Follow the Sun competition,” Ms Horwill said.

“We can’t wait to meet our newest ambassadors when they win, because they really are in for a life changing experience and they are going to do some extraordinary things for breast cancer research in this country.”

Competition winners will be notified on 3 June 2016 with the winners traveling from August to October 2016.

“Dometic is also raffling off a pink WAECO 22L icebox daily – with all proceeds going to NBCF. You can also purchase a 13L, 22L or a 55L pink Icebox, with 25% of every sale being donated to NBCF. This way, everyone can get involved in fundraising for a great cause!”
